Just a short drive outside of Jerusalem, the glorious cliffs and valleys breaking down into the Ma'ale Adumim Desert. This is where the ancient road used to climb all the way from the Dead Sea and the deep desert straight up to the holy city Jerusalem. This is the Gate to the Judean Desert, where the great prophets including Yirmiyahu and Eliyahu Hanavi walked and prayed and prophesied. Unfortunately, this is also the path the rebels and refugees used to escape the burning Jerusalem to hide the secret scrolls of the Torah, awaiting the time their fellow Jews will return two thousand years later. This day begins with an exhilarating water hike in Wadi Qelt – Nahal Prat, a magnificent canyon where a powerful stream of living water flows right through the heart of the arid desert. As we follow the vibrant oasis of Nachal Prat, we will immerse ourselves in the timeless stories of the prophet Jeremiah, and the prophet Elijah, both of whom drew their prophetic fire from this very wilderness. Next, we will step back into biblical times with a camel ride through the pristine landscapes of Genesis Land, enjoying a traditional hospitality visit at Abraham’s tent.
